GB member David Splane says Jehovah had already chosen the organization in 1916
by slimboyfat inin the new dvd governing body member david splane discusses the fact that the bible students did not simply disappear after russell died in 1916. he says this is because jehovah had already chosen the organization to do his work.. this is not a work of man, this is a work of jehovah god.
it's evident that jehovah had already chosen this organization, because of the faithfulness and the sincerity of the men behind it.
it's obvious that jehovah had already chosen this organization to get his work done.

Why Trust the Bible?
by Mad Sweeney inthere have been numerous posts and threads on jwn about why a rational person should re-think trust in the bible as the inspired and inerrant word of god.
these are usually based on clear and logical thinking and reasoning.. the wts and other religious entities have published tracts and books to convince people that the bible is indeed the inspired and inerrant word of god.
these are usually based on circular and fallacious thinking and reasoning.

Perry and BTS. The historical background of how the Bible came to be does not establish that God used men and women to record that history and hence proves that whoever has the cornerstone and foundational claim to the current present day various translations of the Bible out there are in touch with God/Jesus and will receive Eternal Life because of it.
Because to me that's what it is all about, eternal life, and how to get it. If I make the claim that I have the true writtings from God/Jesus and follow it through some organization that I believe is the one that God/Jesus is using i.e, Catholic Church or other Church I will be rewarded with eternal life.
So, to me the end result for an individual that is a believer is how do I get to that eternal reward. Is it by following "The Bible?" Living a moral life? Being Born Again? Having Faith?
If we own up to it, death anxiety plagues us all. The way around that is to latch on to words written down that promises an eternal life in a better place with a God/Jesus. And maybe, just maybe we get a personal experience that convinces us that we are on the right path.
So many have this faith and realization and so many do not.
I am Catholic and do not believe, I have my doubts.

Hi Slimboyfat! Thanks for sharing. Evidently Splane is using "Provincialism"whenever he speaks..
That is, appealing to the tendency to identify closely with the thinking, belief, even the prejudices, bias or ignorance of a particular group, and to see things largely from the standpoint of the in-group verus the out-group.
It often results in a false conception of the importance and moral quality of ones own group...In it's extreme forms, the fallacy of loyalty in the face of great contrary evidence because of provincial loyalty.

Dealing with the reality of death. How do you?
by confliction insince i've come to the realization and conclusion that i've been living a fictional lifestyle for the last 17 years, i've also come to identify with agnosticism.. .
but one issue that's been taking it's emotional toll on me lately is the realization of the fictitious paradisiac earth.. it was the ultimate goal as a witness- the answer to everything.
even if you had questions that couldn't be answered, you were to "wait until the paradise and ask" when you got there.. .

Hi Confliction! Dealing with the reality of death. How do you do it? Well, it's not easy having this reality hanging over our heads. Recently I have read two very interesting books that have opposite views and experiences when it comes to dealing with death.
1) The Denial of Death, Ernest Becker. it deals with the "why" of human existence and man's refusal to acknowledge his own mortality.
2) Searching for Eternity,a scientist's Spiritual journey to overcome death anxiety. Dr.Don Morse. It deals with his conflict over death anxiety and his search for some form of an afterlife.
Two scholars with opposite conclusions about your question on dealing with the reality of death.
Of course there are many more books on this subject that I read, however if you find the time goggle these two and if you find them interesting go ahead and get them. Maybe they will be helpful and maybe they will do what they have done for me, kept me conflicted.
I'm 65 years old and can't stop the clock of death that we all will meet up with sooner or later.
Take care.

The Elder Situation
by metatron ini was speaking with an older sister who is quite zealous and she is typical of many who are concerned that men are not reaching out.
she notes that young men in particular have no interest in doing anything, congregation-wise.. the change in this area is quite dramatic, if you can remember that once, being an elder was an aspiration of nearly every brother - and we had plenty of young men to run the mics and hand out magazines.
i once pointed out to a c.o.

It may be true that many have seen the Watchtower for what it is, but, let us remember that we were once like those that are still in.
I would not denigrate those that are still in. Some may still be in it for the glory, however, I believe that most of the elderly and most of the rank and file are where we were when we were still in, captives of an illusion.
When we were in when others were getting out back in the 70's, 80's 90's etc. we would have liked it if they denigrated us for still being in.
In time we found our way out, hopefully we can help many more to get out too.

Pioneer Assist Others Program End
by garlic81 ini wonder if the pioneer assist others program being discontinued in august 2010 is one of the first service department changes, that has been implemented since theodore jaracz passed away?.
i wonder if they will also be considering the requirement for pioneer hours in hopes of getting more individuals to sign up to pioneer?.

The Pioneer assist program never really got off the ground. Name one assisted person that the pioneer program helped? Not one in our congregation.

When people are in great danger from a source that they do not suspect
by dgp inwhen persons are in great danger from a source that they do not suspect or are being misled by those they consider their friends, is it an unkindness to warn them?
they may prefer not to believe the warning.
they may even resent it.

When the Watchtower wrote that, they themselves were in danger because of their " Cognitive Dissonance " in that the danger comes from being involved with the Watchtower Organization. Of cause they themselves will never admit this because of their own "Self- Justification. Hence, they didn't make a mistake concerning 1975, the rank and file made that mistake.

Responding to personal questions
by Lady Lee init has come to my attention that there have been numerous posts on the board asking posters personal questions like:.
where do you live?are you male or female?do you know people from a certain congregation?do you know a certain district overseer or circuit overseer?do you know of certain conflicts in your congregation?post some pictures of where you liveif you are an active or fading jw ...?if you are an active elder ...?there are plenty of other personal type questions that can be used to narrow down who you are.
some may seem quite innocent like the post pictures of where you live but if i post a picture of ottawa but don't want anyone to know i live in ottawa i have just told the internet world where i live.
